January's #SGGPOM Challenge

Now that December's holiday festivities and our swapping of fabric and patterns has concluded, it's time to think about our January POM Challenge!

We think that January is a great time to start thinking about all those resolutions and since many of them include activewear, January's challenge is to make a pair of leggings.

Here are a few pattern suggestions -- though of course, as always, you are welcome to make any pattern you like.

December's #POM Challenge

What's our #SGGPOM challenge for December's meeting? A simple one: we're asking members to make yourselves a nametag to wear at meetings, so that we can get to know one another better! Make it super simple, make it fancy, make it reflect your other interests... it's  up to you.

(We will still have temporary nametag materials available at meetings if you've forgotten yours or haven't yet made one)

Here are some quick ideas from Pinterest. Hope you are inspired!

December's Holiday Social & Swap!

December's meeting is coming up very quickly. We'll be meeting on Tuesday December 10, 2019 at 7 pm. It's a special meeting -- it's our Guild Holiday Social! Feel free to wear something festive if you wish (it's a great location for blog photos!) and remember to have something to share in our Sew & Tell.

What does this meeting involve? We'll be having some refreshments and social time for the first part of our meeting. Remember to BYOM - bring your own mug - if you would like to partake of the coffee and tea. Also, if you can, any quick squares or finger food would be a welcome addition. We will only have napkins to work with so nothing too fussy, please :)

The second part of our meeting will be our Festive Fabric & Pattern Swap! If you have fabric or patterns you'd like to part with, bring them along. Please be sure that they are:
  • Clean
  • Marked with yardage and type of fabric if you know it (ie: 1m. of 45" wide cotton)
  • Still usable with all pieces if a pattern
We will be depositing all that is brought onto two tables which we'll then open to swapping after our break. You don't have to bring something to take something - our goal is to find new homes for as many of these unwanted pieces as possible. Anything left at the end of the night will be given to charitable groups in our community.

Remember, all are welcome to our meetings, non-members are $5 at the door.

October #POM Challenge

Each month at our meetings we'll announce a Pattern of the Month Challenge -- or, a POM! The hashtag for this will be #SGGPOM, and you'll be able to find all our challenges under the #SGGPOM tag on social media or here on the website.

We had a good response to the our first #POM challenge, which was to make up a simple woven top. So this month's challenge is to take that top making mojo and try out a knit top!

There are many knit top patterns out there, and you can choose whichever one you like. But we have some suggestions for easy tees that you can whip up in a month.

Here are some ideas.

FREE patterns:

Mandy Boat Tee by Tessuti - a popular free pattern to download
The Maria Denmark Kimono Tee - this one is free if you sign up for her newsletter

Plantain by Deer & Doe (also free!)

Laundry Day Tee by Love Notions - free with a code if you join the facebook group

Jalie's Yoko Top - a free boxy turtleneck knit top for the colder days ahead.

And some that are not free but really charming too!

Halfmoon Atelier's La Brea Top - designed for knits or wovens and with some neat finishing details at the sleeve

Jennifer Lauren Handmade's Bronte Top has some cute features around the neck and shoulder too

Friday Pattern Company's Adrienne Blouse- if you want to add some extra flair to your knit top, this popular pattern with statement sleeves might just be the ticket!

If you make a knit top for our #POM challenge, don't forget to bring it along to show off in our Sew & Tell at the November 19 meeting.

It's Getting Real!

Planning is moving along for our Stratford Garment Guild!

Check out our Meeting Info Page to find out when and where the Guild will be meeting starting this fall -- spoiler alert, we will have the Upper Hall at St James Anglican Church here in Stratford on Tuesday nights. Besides the central location and large space it offers, the church grounds are also lovely for blog or social media photos of your makes -- I've done many of mine there!

And go on over to our Membership Page to find the membership application form and information on how to join. You have the choice to fill out the application and send fees online, or print it and bring it with you to your first meeting.

We look forward to meeting all of you and learning from one another, very soon.
