December Meeting: Holiday Social!

Our December meeting is coming quickly! We will be have a holiday get together, with Potluck and Penny Auction 🙂 So far we are good to go with our regular space, the River Gardens Community Room.

This means, please bring some finger food with you (we do not have places to heat things up etc so make it buffet style) and also bring along a small gift (unwrapped) of something nice that you might like to receive (not expensive). It doesn't have to be sewing related - wine is always a hit 😉 We will be putting all the gifts out on a table and you can buy 5 tickets for $2 and put a ticket in each bag for the gift you would like to win. You can buy as many tickets as you like!

We will have a short business meeting, our regular Sew & Tell, and our 50-50, and then enjoy some socializing, snacking, and auctioning. Everyone welcome, guests too, $5 at the door.

Dorset Button Making Workshop

 LOCATION CHANGE:

This workshop will now be held at the Stratford Public Library in the Auditorium

The Guild is pleased to announce our first ever workshop! We will be learning about Dorset Buttons (and other kinds of thread wrapped buttons) from Margaret Cheesman from the London Embroidery Guild. This is a hands-on workshop and the materials fee is included in the class cost.

You'll leave with an understanding of the history of Dorset buttons as well as some samples you've made in class. Hope to see anyone interested in this fascinating art at the workshop!

To register please email membershipsgg@gmail.com with your full name - you can also e-transfer the class cost to that email (but please include your name in a note so we know it's you!)

October Meeting is a Road Trip!

October's meeting will be a little different -- instead of meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, we will be taking a road trip!
On Saturday Oct 14, we will be visiting the Fashion History Museum in Cambridge.
We will meet up at the Museum at 11 am when it opens, and the self-directed tour of the galleries takes about an hour. Because we have a group booking, it is only $8/person.
Then we will be having lunch nearby at Ernie's Roadhouse (https://www.erniesroadhouse.com/menu) and perhaps even making a stop at the nearbyish Len's Mills before heading home.
If you are interested in joining us for this outing, please email us at membershipsgg(gmail) or add your name to our Facebook post (if you haven't already signed up at our recent meeting). And if you are willing to be a driver, please note that as well so we can arrange transportation for everyone.
Looking forward to our first Guild group outing!

September launch of our New Season!

We look forward to the beginning of a new season, starting on Tuesday Sept 12, 7-9 pm! There are a couple of changes to be aware of this year:

  • Memberships have increased slightly to cover rising costs (see membership page for full details

  • We have a new location! We will be meeting at the River Gardens Retirement Residence, in the Community Room. This is inside and down the hall to the left. It is three steps up, but there is an elevator beside the room for anyone who needs it. There is a large parking lot on the corner of Romeo and Delamere, plus a couple of spots down near the entrance for anyone with mobility issues (please only use these if you need them). You will need to sign in and out at the front desk, due to Health & Safety regulations. Masks are currently optional in this location.

  • Please try to wear a nametag at meetings this year! It will make it easier for everyone to get to know new people, as well as helping those of us with terrible memories ;)

September's Meeting is a time to reconnect after our summer apart. We will be introducing some of the upcoming speakers and events as well as new additions to the Guild like outings and workshops. There will be sign ups available for some of those right at the meeting.

Don't forget to bring your Relaxed Summer Style projects from our Summer POM Challenge for Sew & Tell!

We'll also have a quick Sewing Pep Talk from our special virtual visitor, Deepika Prakash of PatternReview.com, who we like to think of as an honourary member ;) Have any questions about PatternReview? Now's the time to ask them!

Looking forward to seeing all of you again, and hoping to see some new faces too.

Our Upcoming 2023-2024 Season!

Our next season is coming fast -- get your memberships now! If you have ever been a member in the past, you can take advantage of our returning member rates. You can also download and fill out our membership form and send that along to the same email, or print it and bring it to the first meeting.

Please note that we have had to increase our membership rates slightly this year to accommodate rising rental and speaker costs. We hope that you will enjoy what we have to offer with these upgrades.

Our other big change is that we have moved our venue to River Gardens Retirement Residence, the Community Room -- 10 Romeo St, Stratford. This has a large parking lot at the corner of Romeo & Delamere, with a few spots in front of the building itself for anyone with mobility issues. The room is accessible, with an elevator for those who need it.

We will be continuing to meet on the 2nd Tuesday of every month, from 7-9 pm, with a few special events planned. More information will be coming soon!
