October 2020: SOS!

October's meeting is coming up quickly! Join in on our Zoom meeting on Oct 13, 2020 at 7 pm for a Member Led SOS Party!

What's that, you say? If you have a Sewing SOS that you need answers to, post it right here, or on our Facebook or Instagram page, as soon as you can, and someone will work on getting an answer for you for the meeting.

If you know an answer to a question, please feel free to volunteer to take it on for the meeting! We'll cover as many questions as we can fit in, and have some fun sharing our sewing knowledge. It can be a general question or a very specific one if you have a fitting issue or project problem.

Have your Sew & Tells ready as well, and don't forget the October challenge to make something Warm & Cozy!

We'll also be announcing our very special guest for the November meeting at the end of the October call. Don't miss this fun evening with your SGG pals

Membership 2020/2021 Announcement

As we are all aware by now, Covid restrictions have limited what we can do as a guild this year. The decision was made to continue on with Zoom meetings until otherwise able to meet. Please be sure to follow this blog as well as our Facebook and/or Instagram accounts for notification of Zoom meeting information.

After much deliberation, we have made the choice to require membership registration for this year despite the change in structure, and as part of that to ask for a $15 membership fee. This is just less than half of our regular membership fee; even though we are meeting virtually, we still have expenses, and want to ensure the continuation of our guild for the future.

Expenses include the Zoom membership fee (free accounts are very limited and don't serve our needs), any small honorariums we may want to offer our Zoom guests in future, and any unexpected things that may arise. We need a financial reserve to allow us to rent space when that is an option again, and to make sure we can stay in business!

If you feel you cannot afford this membership fee this year, please let us know by emailing membershipsgg@gmail.com or by messaging executive member Laura Van Niejenhuis directly on Facebook. We will make it work for you.

If you feel able to add an extra donation to your membership fee of $15, this will be used to support our members who cannot afford the membership fee this year due to Covid hardships. Thank you for sticking with the SGG this year and for your support.

Please fill out the membership form found here on the website or via the Facebook page, and email it to membershipsgg@gmail.com, and send an etransfer to the same email address, noting your name. You can find the form and further information on our Membership Page.

As always, if you have questions, please email or leave comments here or on the Facebook or Instagram page for us to get back to you on.

Member Challenge for October's Meeting

The Monthly Challenge is back! We challenge members of the Guild to make something on the theme of "Warm & Cozy" for October's meeting.

Whether that means a shawl, scarf, sweater or slippers, or even that quilt that you're working on, get busy on something that you consider warm and cozy and be ready to share it at the next meeting, Oct 13!

September 2020: A new season & a Gathering of the Guilds!

It's already September, and time for a new season of Guild meetings. After much discussion, we've decided to continue meeting via Zoom until further notice. This allows us all to participate safely, and gives us the option to speak to people who are too far away for us to bring in person -- a silver lining!

September's meeting is next Tuesday, Sept 8, at 7 pm via Zoom. We are hosting a Gathering of the Guilds: representatives from the Ottawa Garment Guild and the Atlantic Sewing Guild will be sharing the history of their guilds, the kinds of activities they've shared over the years, and how they are facing up to this Covid crisis. I hope you'll be inspired to imagine how the SGG could grow in the future, too!

Members should receive a link to the meeting room in your email or via our private Facebook page. If you haven't, let us know.

We hope to see you all there, to refresh ourselves talking sewing!
